Dear readers, UK has installed its largest shore power facility on the Thames, while New York City expanded connections at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal. In France, a €250 million grid resilience plan in Marseille directly supports the "Zero Smoke Stopovers" project. This infrastructure enables vessel transitions, from Svitzer's battery renewal on four hybrid tugs to the world's first all-electric commercial lobster boat in Scotland. The global ferry order book is dominated by low-emission vessels, and new electric tug designs are being approved from Singapore to India.   • Thames' largest shore power facility: Net Zero Marine and Svitzer install the "largest" shore power on the River Thames. The 0.55 MW facility at Denton Wharf will power Svitzer's tug fleet.   • NYC Expands Brooklyn shore power: NYCEDC expands shore power infrastructure at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal. The upgrade allows MSC Meraviglia and Princess Cruises' Enchanted Princess to connect. It was enabled by a new Mobile Cable Positioning System and additional connection points. This delivers on community feedback to electrify New York's waterfront. READ MORE

  • Marseille's €250M Grid Resilience Plan: French DSO Enedis launches a €250 million grid modernization for Marseille. The plan prioritizes climate resilience and decarbonizing maritime transport. It includes a new 20MW delivery point for the port, with capacity rising to 160MW. This supports the "Zero Smoke Stopovers" goal for 100% ferry electrification. READ MORE

  • Riviera's electrified coastal corridor: Aqua superPower chargers create a 185-mile electrified route from France to Italy. Boaters can now cruise from St. Tropez to Genoa using a network of fast chargers. This enables sustainable exploration of the Ligurian coast and Cinque Terre.   • Vietnam's deep-water logistics hub: HCM City's Tân Phước ward emerges as a strategic logistics hub. It features the Cái Mép–Thị Vải port cluster, one of the world's top 19 deep-water ports.   • Canada's first hybrid coast guard vessel: Construction begins on the Canadian Coast Guard's first diesel-electric hybrid vessel. The Near-Shore Fishery Research Vessel will operate on a fuel blend including biodiesel. It is designed with a hybrid propulsion system and a battery bank to reduce emissions.   • Svitzer completes Tug battery renewal: AYK Energy completes a battery renewal project for four Svitzer hybrid tugs. The tugs operating in Western Australia received 1.3 MWh of new LFP batteries each. The new batteries have twice the energy density of the original set.   • Lisbon's fully electric ferry fleet: The Cacilhas-Sodré connection in Lisbon resumes with a fully electric fleet. The operation will now provide 38 additional services and 75,000 more seats monthly. The new "Peneireiro-Cinzento" catamaran can transport 540 passengers.   • SeaTech E-Tug design gets IRS approval: SeaTech Solutions receives Approval in Principle from IRS for its E-VOLT tug design. The battery-electric tug is designed to meet India's Green Tug Transition Program. It integrates an advanced battery storage system and an ergonomic layout.   • Global ferry fleet in transition: A survey highlights the global shift towards low-emission ferry newbuilds. Molslinjen orders two battery-electric Incat catamarans with 45,000 kWh battery packs.   • Volare boats launches electric dayboat: Volare Boats launches the Artemis23, a 23-foot all-electric day boat. It features a best-in-class electric range and 360-degree joystick control.   • India's JNPA green tug tender: Polestar Maritime wins a tender to charter two electric tugs for Jawaharlal Nehru Port. The winning bid was a day rate of ₹5,89,500 for a 15-year charter. This is the fourth green tug tender finalized by an Indian state-owned port. The tugs are likely to be built at Cochin Shipyard Ltd. READ MORE

  • Scotland's electric lobster boat: Hans Unkles operates the UK's only fully electric commercial lobster boat, Lorna Jean. The converted 21-foot boat runs on a 45 kWh battery pack with supplemental solar. Its daily operating cost is about £2, with negligible maintenance.   • Echandia ESS for spliethoff cargo ships: Echandia wins a contract to supply battery systems for eight Spliethoff cargo vessels. The LTO battery systems will optimize generator efficiency during cargo operations. They are designed for a 20-year lifespan, far exceeding competing systems.   • Liebherr Reports e-crane growth: Liebherr reports a 400% increase in electric drive mobile harbor crane sales since 2019. India leads in e-crane adoption, followed by Türkiye, Europe, the US, and UK. E-drives can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 100 kg per hour compared to diesel.
