Sirius Shipping orders hybrid electric tankers: Sweden’s Sirius Shipping has ordered four energy-efficient 7,999-dwt hybrid tankers at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard. Featuring cutting-edge propulsion technology, ice-class 1A certification, and shore power systems for zero-emission port operations, these vessels are pivotal to Sirius's sustainability goals. Port of Antwerp-Bruges adds first electric tugboat: The Port of Antwerp-Bruges has acquired six new tugs, including the groundbreaking Volta 1, an electric tug capable of two operations per charge. This project, funded partially by the EU’s NextGenerationEU program, will allow vessels to connect to a 16 MVA electrical supply, reducing emissions during port stays. Barcelona launches sustainable ferry power initiative: The Port of Barcelona will debut its Onshore Power Supply (OPS) system for ferries at the Grimaldi terminal in January.
