ECT Rotterdam to Slash Emissions with Shore Power by 2030:
Hutchison Ports ECT Rotterdam will transition its terminals to shore power, reducing CO2 emissions by 35,000 tonnes annually. Partnering with Rotterdam Shore Power, the first vessels will connect by 2028, with full operations by 2030. This initiative supports the Port of Rotterdam’s goal of becoming climate neutral by 2050, while offering greener solutions to maritime clients.
Amsterdam to Limit Cruise Ships and Enforce Shore Power by 2027: the city will reduce cruise ship calls to 100 annually starting in 2026, as part of efforts to curb noise, air pollution, and congestion. By 2027, all ships must connect to shore power, further cutting emissions. The city also plans to relocate its cruise terminal by 2035, while studying the financial impact of fewer tourists and reduced port revenues.
Tianjin Port Surges Ahead in Green Energy and Shore Power: the port has surpassed 200 million kWh of renewable energy generation from wind and solar, powering 40% of the port's annual electricity needs. By 2024, the port expects over 380 shore power connections, with a supply capacity of 4.82 million kWh, significantly reducing emissions. These efforts are part of a broader plan to increase clean energy generation and electrify port operations. The port aims to reach 150 MW installed capacity by 2025.
Port of Port Angeles Wins Grant for Electrification Efforts: the port has received $525,000 from Washington’s Climate Commitment Act to electrify its operations, including upgrading shore power capabilities. This grant will help replace outdated diesel equipment with electric alternatives, such as forklifts and a reach stacker. The Port is also seeking a $10 million EPA grant to further fund these initiatives. Improved shore power will allow more ships to connect while docked, reducing emissions significantly.
